The Committee will be holding a RULES OF GOLF SESSION for all members, by Stuart McPhee (R&A Level 3, USGA Expert Rules Certification, Referee on the PGA Tour of Australasia) on Wednesday May 21st at 2pm in the Clubrooms. Sessions usually run between 1 ½ to 2 hours.

An example of topics covered for seasoned golfers are:

  • The 5 most commonly broken Rules
  • The 10 greatest Rules myths
  • The 5 most common Rules golfers need to know
  • How to take free and penalty relief correctly
  • How to tackle Rules disputes on the course, both in stroke play and match play
  • How to correct a procedural mistake on the course

 

Bring your questions or email them to Coralie Higgins at coraliehiggins@hotmail.com and she will collate them. He will contact me the week prior to ask if there are questions he can answer in his session. However, questions can be asked on the day. The committee may hold a further session on a weekend day for those not able to attend on the Wednesday.

Round 5 (10/5/2025)

 

Tirhatuan Bowl report 

Glen Waverley Ladies entered two teams for the Tirhatuan Bowl played on Friday March 21st. Congratulations to Di Wardle who won the A Grade individual event with 37 points and Jill Cornish who won the B Grade individual event with 34 points. Di, Jill and Deb Sal won the Tirhatuan Salver with 97 points on a countback with Tirhatuan also on 97 points. The Salver is on display in the downstairs display cabinet. 

Our other team of Hayley Kwon, Eugena Kwak and Jan Crosbie also posted good scores.

Men’s Club Championships

The first round of the Men’s Club Championships commences this Saturday (5 October) and runs for four consecutive weeks, with the final round being played on 26 October 2024.

Veteran’s Division

In past years, we have asked the members who qualify for the Veteran’s division of the Club Championships (those 60 years and over) to use a scorecard marked with a red sticker so that those in the division can be easily identified for scoring purposes.

However, as many of our members have now transitioned to scoring using the MiScore App on their phones, this will no longer be possible.  Whilst we have most (but not all) members’ date of birth in our records, the system cannot automatically calculate the Veteran’s leaderboard by means of the date of birth.

Therefore, to ensure that all veterans are identified, we will place a list at the registration kiosk and ask that all members that qualify for the Veteran’s division write their name and Golflink number on the list when they register for the competition on Saturday morning.

Top Eight

As we successfully trialled last year, from Round 2 of the Championships, the top eight players will be group together (in two groups of four).  This creates great excitement and pressure in the battle for the crown.

The booking sheets for rounds 2, 3 and 4 will have eight spots reserved for this purpose.

Please make your booking as usual, and you will then be notified if you are moved into one of the reserved positions as a top eight player.

News bulletin:

For members wishing to know about Peter McGrady’s health after an episode on the golf course a couple of weeks ago.

He is on his way to fitness and will be returning to golf once the doctor has given him a clean bill of health.

Men’s Presentation Day – 1st March 2025

Last Saturday GWGC presented club trophies and medals to the deserving winners.
Whilst there were many worthy winners. The main honour went to Doug Smith who took out the Autumn cup, GWGC cup, President Trophy, Monthly and Club medals. Also to Chris Lim taking out the Club championship cup.
To the winners who were unable to make the presentation please check in with Clive who has your trophy and/or medal ready for you to collect.
GWGC are delighted to see so many individual and team awards won.
